Madison Heights High School Pirates

John Michael Worley has always been a mystery classmate. His name is on our Graduation Announcement but his picture is not found in any of the 1963 thru 1966 Treasure Chests. We have asked several classmates and no one has remembered any classmate by that name. In 2016, some research on the Internet and at the Indiana Room of the Anderson Public Library may have finally solved this mystery. There is a John Michael Worley buried in Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson with a birth date of August 15, 1939 and a death date of September 8, 1997. He would have been about 9 years older than our classmates or the projected class of 1957. Research at the Indiana Room shows a John Worley in the Anderson High School Yearbooks of 1954 (freshman), 1955 (sophomore) and 1956 (junior) but not in 1957 yearbook. In addition his obituary was found in the 1997 Anderson Herald Bulletin and is shown below. In the obituary it claims that he graduated from Anderson High School.

All I can conclude from this it that John Worley went to Anderson High School but did not graduate with his class of 1957. He evidently completed his requirements for graduation in 1966 and received his high school diploma in that year. Why he is listed on the Madison Heights High School Graduation List is unclear and still remains a mystery.
