ARLINGTON, Va. — Larry W. Stopher, 62, of Arlington, Va.,
died Sept. 14, 2010.
Mr. Stopher was born in Elwood and spent his childhood in
Anderson.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany. After
his military service, he worked as a senior budget analyst for the Department of
Defense at the Pentagon. During the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon, Mr. Stopher
volunteered in the rescue mission. He courageously went back into the Pentagon
to rescue others after he, himself, escaped unharmed. A year later, he was
awarded a civilian medal by the U.S. Army, for his outstanding bravery and
honor.
He earned a master’s degree in history from Ball State
University.
Mr. Stopher is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years,
Dotti Stopher; his parents, Guy and Ann Stopher of Anderson; his mother and
father-in-law, John and Rosemary Coyle of Cumberland, Md.; brother, Ronald L.
Stopher of Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Arlington National
Cemetery at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010. All those attending are asked to
meet at the administration building at 1:30 p.m.
