CONCHO, Ariz. — Barbara J. “Barb” (Luther) Starkel, 62, passed away Aug. 20, 2010, following an extended illness.

She was born March 2, 1948, in Anderson, to Edgar and Wilma Jean (Cox) Luther.

She graduated from Madison Heights High School in 1966.

She was employed at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis before relocating to Phoenix, Ariz. She was employed as a personnel management specialist with various agencies of the federal government for 30 years.

Barb loved to cook and bake, read, and tend to her house plants.

Survivors include her loving husband of 30 years, John F. Starkel of Concho; her mother-in-law, Madelyne Starkel of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Rhonda Lewis of Anderson and Korryn Marlene Davidson of Pendleton; brothers-in-law, David (Sue) Starkel, Robert (Pam) Starkel, Tom (Vickie) Starkel, and Steve Gillum, all of Arizona; several nieces and nephews in Arizona and Indiana; and several great-nieces and great-nephews in Arizona and Indiana.

Barb was preceded in death by her son, Frank Starkel; her parents; a sister, Candace “Candy” Morgan; and a sister-in-law, Janet Gillum.

A memorial service was held Aug. 23 in Peoria, Ariz., at the Heritage Funeral Chapel, with cremation following. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association at www.americandiabetesassociation.com or American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
