COOS BAY, Ore. — Former Anderson resident Dennis Craig Bodenhorn, 61 of Coos
Bay, Ore., passed away Oct. 13, 2009, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 9, 1948, in Anderson, Ind., to the late Frederick “Shine”
Bodenhorn and Violet (Gammon) Bodenhorn (also deceased).
He was a graduate of Madison Heights High School and attended Ball State
University.
Craig was a political organizer in various Democratic campaigns in California as
well as Indiana. He was also a restaurant manager for 15 years in Jackson,
Miss., and Indianapolis, Ind. He worked as a community organizer in VISTA
(Volunteers in Service to America) in 1977-78 in Indianapolis and Washington,
D.C.
Craig traveled extensively in the U.S. He was an accomplished chef and enjoyed
preparing meals for guests. Among his many friends and relatives he was
appreciated for his storytelling and wit. He was broadly read and interested in
the arts and an amateur artist of talent.
Survivors include his sister, Sue (Bodenhorn) O’Connor and husband, Jewett of
Concord, N.H.; two nieces, Keli Grigsby of Indianapolis, Ind., and Amy McConnell
of Anderson, Ind.; a nephew, Kurt Davis of Boston, Mass.; as well as several
great nieces and nephews. Craig is also survived by his lifelong best friend,
Patrick Myers, of Indianapolis.
A family memorial service is pending. Arrangements are being handled by Myrtle
Grove Funeral Service-Bay Area.
